Carlops’ war memorial is a stone plaque on the front of the church, between the main door and the window to the south of it. It commemorates Carlops men killed during the First World War. Carlops resident Guy Walters researched the lives of those named.
A special Remembrance Day service was held in Carlops Church on Sunday 11 November 2018 to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.
Minister Rev Stewart McPherson delivered a reflection on the concept of remembrance.
Guy Walters donated a Tommy figurine created by the charity There but not there to serve as a focus for remembrance in future years. Tommy is held in Carlops Church in trust for the Carlops community. Presenting the statuette at the remembrance service, Guy spoke about the concept of service to one’s country.
